Encores and More: FAQ

  1. Why should I shop at Encores and More?
Encores and More is your one-stop source for all your children’s needs and a great way to make money on things you can no longer use. We have been in business for over 14 years, offering the best selection, quality, convenience, and savings in Middle Tennessee.  We will have over 60,000 children’s items for all ages, from infant to teen.  At Encores we try to provide ample shopping space to display all types of merchandise, from equipment, toys, shoes, books, and thousands of clothing items.  You will find ample parking, and air-conditioned rooms.  We work very hard at being organized and professional, using automated equipment in our check-out lanes (14 lanes open on busy days!).  Our consignors get top dollar for their items, and we are diligent in our bookkeeping.  It is a win-win situation for consignors and shoppers!
  2. What are the benefits of consigning?

    A. You can make money selling your discarded clothes, toys, furniture, etc.  The hassle of advertising and displaying your items for sale is taken care for you, and Encores will bring you a much higher price than garage sale prices.  You will make 70% of the selling price, which you set yourself.

    B. Buy anything you need for your children at one-half to one-third of the retail prices.  It’s also a great way for grandparents to get things to keep at their house for the grandkids.

    C. You will get a pass to the presale that is for consignors only, getting to shop before the general  public.  Since each consignor prices their own items, you will get first choice of the lower priced items!
  3. What types of things are for sale?
Anything and everything for kids from infant to teen – including maternity.  We have a large selection of clothing in every size, thousands of shoes and books,  20 toy tables, baby accessories of every variety, and a second gym filled with equipment such as strollers, furniture, and large outdoor toys.  We have bedding, sports equipment, videos, CDs, and much more.  Our long-time consignors know this is no exaggeration!
  4. When/where is the next sale?
We have two sales each year, one in February for spring/summer items and one in July for fall/winter.  Please check our home page for current dates.
  5. What payments are accepted?
We accept cash, personal check, check cards, Master Card, Visa, and Discover.  There will be a $25 fee for any returned checks.
  6. What are some helpful shopping tips?
Bring a friend and make it a mom’s day out!
Bring a large bag or something to help you carry all your selections.
Make a list of sizes and needed items before you come.
If you wish to purchase a large item, you can take off the white card and replace it with a SOLD  tag which you can get from the door person. Put your name and phone # on the sold tag.  Be careful not to lose the white card, and once you take off the card, you must buy it!
Be sure to check in both the boys and the girls for your sizes.  We have lots of unisex items, such as  Gap, Levi’s, etc.
Find a good light to sit under and carefully inspect everything you plan to purchase.  We do our best at inspection, but cannot possibly catch everything.  All sale are final.
When you are almost ready to check-out, get a number from the door person.  You may shop AND  LISTEN for your number to be called.
  7. What is the selling split or fee?
As a consignor, you will get 70% of the selling price, and Encores will get 30%.  There is a $12 participant’s fee that will be deducted from your check.
  8. How can I become a consignor?
Just go to our Become a Consignor page for all the details.  We’d love to have you join us!
  9. How do I price my items?
We generally recommend ½ to 1/3 of the retail price you paid for the item new, factoring in size and condition.  We ask you only bring items that are in excellent condition.  We have a huge selection in the smaller sizes, so you may want to price toddler sizes less than ½ just to be sure it sells.  Ask yourself "Would I buy what I'm bringing in at the price I am asking?"  If you will be donating your items that don't sell, please consider letting them go half price.  Getting half price for an item is better than getting nothing!  Please read our Tagging Page for more details.
  10. What can I expect at drop-off?
You will bring all your items in and check in at the desk.  Our worker will give you any instructions you need, and you’ll fill out all your paperwork, get your passes, etc.  While you are doing paperwork, we will inspect your items and run the bar codes.  You will put the bar codes on your clothing items (double checking as you stick them on the cards), and then you will hang your clothing on the proper rack.  Our toy/equipment inspector may ask you to take the larger toy items to their proper places (if it needs to be assembled, you will need to assemble it there.)   Everything else, such as shoes, books, small toys, etc. will be put out by our workers.
  11. Why should I get a drop-off appointment?
We have two drop-off options:  General, where you can come anytime during the hours given or Appointment, where you choose a specific time to drop off.  It really depends on your personality type as to whether you need a appointment time or just a general time.  If you have a specific schedule each day and enjoy being a punctual person, an appointment may be good for you.  With appointments, you may only have to wait on one or two people.  With a general time, you may come at the same time as 20 other people.  If you need a flexible time for travel time (or baby’s nap time!), come on a general day.  The first several hours on Sunday are very busy, as is Tuesday.  Late Sunday or anytime Monday is less busy.
  12. How can I become a volunteer worker?
Go to our Volunteer page for all the details.  Our workers shop the day before Presale!  The shifts fill up quickly, so contact us as soon as possible.
  13.  What is the VIP Tagging service?
The VIP tagging is a service we offer to those who just can't find the time to get their items ready, but want to sell them and also come to the presale.  Check out the VIP tagging page for all the details.
